Youths Set Fire to Abandoned Building Near Bath Hospital

A fire erupted at an abandoned building near St Martin’s Hospital in Bath after two youths reportedly broke in and deliberately started the blaze.

Emergency services responded promptly to the fire at the vacant property on Clara Cross Lane, which is currently undergoing redevelopment. Five fire crews from Bath, Kingswood, Hicksgate, Radstock, and Paulton arrived on the scene on December 23 to extinguish the flames. Additional firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were also on standby.

Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time, and no injuries were reported. Fire crews confirmed that the structural integrity of the building was not compromised, deeming it safe once the fire was fully extinguished.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, two male youths were seen causing criminal damage and engaging in anti-social behavior in the area. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

A police spokesperson stated: “Reports were received of youths breaking into the redevelopment site and setting a fire around 4pm on Tuesday, 23 December. The fire was quickly controlled, and no casualties were found. Avon Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed the deliberate nature of the fire, with firefighters using breathing apparatus and multiple hose reels to extinguish the blaze.
