Year six pupils from St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock, experienced a unique educational trip to Westminster on Monday, September 15. As part of their curriculum on British democracy, history, and citizenship, the children explored the historic corridors of power at the House of Lords.
Guided through the majestic chamber, the youngsters engaged actively by asking insightful questions about the legislative process and the important role of peers in shaping UK law. Their curiosity and enthusiasm were evident as they connected classroom lessons with real-world governance.
Following their visit to the Lords, the pupils embarked on a walking tour of central London’s most famous sites. They visited Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Downing Street, St James’s Park, and Buckingham Palace. At each stop, they delved into the architectural beauty, rich history, and symbolic meanings that these landmarks hold, enriching their understanding of the nation’s heritage.
