Primrose Lane Primary School in Yeovil has once again impressed Ofsted inspectors, maintaining its coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating in the latest inspection report published on June 19. The school, which educates 260 children aged two to eleven, was first rated Outstanding in 2019, and inspectors confirm that it has sustained these high standards over six years.
The Ofsted report praises Primrose Lane as a calm and happy place where pupils enjoy learning and show strong camaraderie. Staff work closely with parents and carers, creating a supportive community that enables every child to thrive. High expectations for achievement and behaviour are clearly communicated and embraced by all pupils, fostering a positive and productive school environment.
Inspectors highlighted the school’s broad and ambitious curriculum, singling out its exceptional approach to literacy. From Reception, children receive solid foundations in reading and writing, frequently practising letter sounds and developing precise pencil grips that lead to confident writing skills. Pupils progress to become proficient readers and writers, thanks to the school’s emphasis on books and stories. The well-stocked library is a favorite among pupils, who enjoy selecting their own reading materials and treat them with care.

Parents echoed the positive findings, expressing great satisfaction with the level of care and education provided. Many appreciated the school’s close partnership with families and the robust support available for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The early years provision also received high praise for giving children an excellent start to their education.
Headteacher Annie Sherrard commented, “I am incredibly proud to see the Ofsted report reflect the dedication of our staff and the hard work of our pupils. We are grateful for the positive feedback from parents and remain committed to providing the best possible experience for all members of our school community.”
