Yeovil Town’s Survival Hopes Dim After 2-1 Defeat at Gateshead

Gateshead strengthened their bid for National League survival with a crucial 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town at Gateshead International Stadium. The win allows the Heed to extend their gap from the relegation zone to five points and marks only their second defeat in eight matches.

The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Keaton Ward converted a penalty after Jake Wannell was penalized for handball. Ward, who recently scored in a vital triumph over top contenders York, once again proved decisive. Just eight minutes later, Mark Beck doubled Gateshead’s lead by heading in a cross from Zak Gilsenan at the back post. Beck’s goal continues his impressive form after returning from injury, registering his third goal in five appearances.

Despite Finn Cousin-Dawson’s stoppage-time red card intensifying Yeovil’s woes, the Glovers managed a late consolation through Kyle Ferguson. However, the defeat leaves Yeovil still vulnerable, only nine points clear of the drop zone, meaning their fight for survival is far from over.
