Yeovil Town’s Declan Skura: “The Perfect Place to Come and Play”

Yeovil Town have secured the loan signing of centre-back Declan Skura from Wycombe Wanderers until the end of the season. Skura, a promising defender, has a background spanning some notable academies and a steady rise through the ranks.

Skura’s football journey began in the youth setups at Chelsea and Reading, before gaining valuable senior experience in non-league football with Hanworth Villa and Kingstonian. His consistent performances earned him a development squad contract with Wycombe Wanderers in February 2023 after impressing during a trial period.

He made his first-team debut for Wycombe in an EFL Trophy match, contributing to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace’s under-21 side. Since then, Skura has steadily integrated into senior football through a National League loan at Ebbsfleet United and a League One substitute appearance against Blackpool.

After making his debut for Yeovil Town in their recent clash against Rochdale, Skura reflected on his start with the club: “The red card made it more of a defensive game than usual, but it was a great way to get introduced to the team and the lads. The togetherness on the pitch really helps me settle in.”

Playing in front of a strong home crowd of around 3,000 supporters gave him an extra boost: “It felt really good to be back in front of fans. That’s what you want – to play in front of passionate supporters.”

Skura is drawn to Yeovil Town because of their style of play and the opportunity for valuable game time. “Yeovil showed real interest in me, and I like the way they play football. I just wanted to play good football and get minutes on the pitch, especially after dealing with a long calf injury. So, Yeovil is the perfect place to come.”

Having faced several injuries in recent times, he is now focused on fitness and consistent performance. “I’ve had recurring injuries, but now I’m settled and ready to stay fit. My main goal is to play as many games as possible and, importantly, help keep clean sheets.”

Interestingly, Skura also has past links to Yeovil through former coach Billy Rowley from Nigel James’s youth coaching academy. “I was at an academy when I was younger, Nigel James’s academy, where Billy Rowley was a coach. I can’t remember much from back then—I was quite young—but it’s a nice connection.”
