Yeovil Town Women’s New Community Focus Expands Playing Opportunities

Yeovil Town Football Club has embraced a fresh chapter in its commitment to grassroots football and inclusivity with the transformation of its former training ground at Alvington into the Yeovil Town Community Sports Centre. Now operated by the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust, this facility is set to become a vibrant hub for local football development.

The centre will host a range of key programs and clubs, such as Yeovil Town Women, Westland Sports FC, Yeovil Town’s under-19 and post-16 football and education programmes, alongside Yeovil Town Soccer Schools. This move underlines the club’s dedication to providing opportunities for players of all ages and abilities throughout the South Somerset region.

Executive chairman Stuart Robins highlighted the significance of integrating Yeovil Town Women into the Community Sports Trust. Speaking at the recent Meet the Owners event, Robins shared, “When I came into this club three years ago, I was determined to establish a ladies team. It’s vital for our community that we offer girls and women the chance to play at whatever level they can.” He emphasized that the same principle applies to youth and boys’ teams—everyone should have the opportunity to wear a Yeovil Town shirt.

Robins acknowledged past challenges in managing the women’s team, explaining that shifting them to the Trust addresses those issues by providing more dedicated care and support. This transition will also enable access to grants and resources not available within the main football club, enhancing player development as the team aims to progress up the league.

Bhavna Srinivasan, wife of new owner Prabhu Srinivasan, added her support: “I am deeply involved in women’s empowerment globally, and this initiative aligns perfectly with our values. We fully back Stuart and the Trust in expanding opportunities for women in football.”

In an exciting upcoming development, Yeovil Town is hosting a free girls’ training session on Tuesday, July 1, at the 3G pitch at Huish Park. Open to girls aged 6 to 14 of all skill levels—from beginners to experienced local players—the session focuses on enjoyment, learning, and skill development in an inclusive environment. Participants will engage in technical drills, small-sided games, and team activities designed to build confidence and core skills under the guidance of Yeovil Town Academy coaches.

This is a fantastic chance for young girls passionate about football to experience academy-style coaching and connect with like-minded peers. The session runs from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees should bring appropriate footwear, shin pads, and a water bottle.
