Yeovil Town’s impressive start to the National League season came to an end as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Southend United, despite holding a 2-0 lead for much of the match.
The Glovers had looked set to extend their unbeaten run to four games after Archie Chambers opened the scoring midway through the first half. Captain Luke McCormick then doubled Yeovil’s advantage shortly after the hour mark, giving them a strong position against the in-form home side.
However, Southend mounted a remarkable comeback in the final 24 minutes. Darren Oldaker ignited the revival with a stunning 20-yard free-kick that found the top corner. Then, with 11 minutes left, Leon Chambers-Parillon netted his third goal of the season, capitalising on a strong hold-up by new signing Promise Omochere.

Omochere, who was brought on as a substitute just three minutes before the comeback began, turned scorer himself in the 85th minute. The Bristol Rovers winger deftly spun past his marker and fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net to seal a thrilling victory.
Southend manager Kieron Dyer added an unusual twist to the occasion by incorporating Michael Jackson song titles into his pre-match press conference, aiming to raise funds for charity. The entertaining finale reflected the energy and determination of the hosts, leaving Yeovil to reflect on their first loss of the campaign.
