Yeovil Town kicked off their season with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at home against Hartlepool United. Among the spectators was Jeff Stelling, the former president of Hartlepool, who watched from the stands alongside nearly 200 away supporters. Despite hopes for a positive start, Hartlepool was unable to secure a win for Stelling, especially in light of his recent disagreement with club chairman Raj Singh, who controversially requested that the well-known TV and radio presenter be banned from away boardrooms.
The game saw few clear chances, with the closest effort coming from Hartlepool’s Alex Reid, whose header narrowly missed the target. Yeovil Town pressed as well, but their attempts were thwarted by the Pools’ new goalkeeper, Harvey Cartwright. Cartwright notably preserved his team’s clean sheet with an excellent save to deny Finn Cousin-Dawson’s attempt on goal.
Both sides will be looking to build on this opening point as the season progresses.
