Yeovil Town Preserves Historic Ciderspace Name as First Pre-Season Friendlies Confirmed

Yeovil Town owner and chairman Prabhu Srinivasan has reaffirmed the club’s commitment to preserving the historic Ciderspace name and Fan Zone identity, honoring the deep-rooted traditions cherished by supporters.

In a heartfelt message on the club’s website, Srinivasan highlighted the significance of the fans’ heritage. “One of the things we have come to appreciate most about Yeovil Town is the depth of history that supporters carry with them. It runs through everything here – and it makes this club genuinely special,” he said.

Following the release of the club’s commercial brochure, many fans reached out to recount the story behind Ciderspace—celebrating the contributions of Martin Baker, Hugh Gleave, and Taff Morgan, and the meaning of the space to the community. Recognizing the importance of these memories, the club has vowed to keep the Ciderspace name intact and ensure any future partnerships related to the area honor its legacy.

Srinivasan explained that while the club must pursue commercial growth to fulfill its ambitions—developing new revenue streams and partnerships—this progress will not come at the expense of Yeovil Town’s identity. “A football club is also built on identity, memory and the people who shaped it long before any of us arrived. Ciderspace belongs in that category. The Ciderspace name is not going anywhere – and any future partnership connected to that space will respect and preserve the identity it carries.”

Expressing gratitude to the supporters who shared their stories, he added, “This is your club as much as it is ours, and moments like this remind us exactly why that matters.”

Meanwhile, as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season, Yeovil Town has announced its first pre-season friendlies under new manager Billy Rowley. The Glovers will kick off their summer schedule with a home match against Melksham on July 11 at the Oakfield Stadium. Melksham, having finished 18th in Division One South of the Southern League last season, will offer a valuable challenge in Rowley’s inaugural friendly.

Kick-off is set for 3 pm, with ticket and travel details to be confirmed soon.

Just three days later, Yeovil Town will face Merthyr Town away on Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm. Merthyr Town had a strong campaign last season, finishing eighth in the National League North and narrowly missing out on the playoffs. These fixtures mark the start of an important pre-season phase as Yeovil builds towards the upcoming campaign.
