Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley has described the upcoming National League fixture against Barrow as “incredibly tough,” highlighting the quality of the opposition and the challenges they present. Barrow, led by the highly regarded Adam Murray, have a squad boasting some strong players despite their difficult start to the season following relegation from League Two.
The Glovers aim to build on their first victory of the season, a convincing 3-0 win over Gateshead at Huish Park last weekend. Barrow have collected just one point from their opening three games, drawing 2-2 with Harrogate Town in their latest outing.
Since Yeovil’s return to the National League, the two teams have met only once, with Barrow securing a 1-0 win in 2019. A planned return fixture was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anticipating a demanding travel schedule, Rowley noted that his squad will arrive in Barrow by early evening on Friday ahead of the Saturday match. “It’s a tough journey and a quick turnaround before Monday’s game,” he said, referring to the following home fixture against Tamworth.
The manager acknowledged the numerous factors that could affect performance at Holker Street, including travel fatigue and the expected poor weather conditions. “This game is going to be challenging in multiple ways,” he remarked. “We’re doing everything possible to prepare properly and are fully ready for what lies ahead.”
Managing squad fitness across two fixtures in a short space of time has been a key consideration. “We have debated our approach extensively with the coaching staff,” Rowley explained. “Our focus is on Saturday, but we are mindful of Monday’s game as well.”
In positive news, midfielder James Daly has returned to full training after recovering from a foot injury sustained against Carlisle. “He’s been training fully for the past two sessions,” said Rowley. “The stitches are out and he’s in good shape.”
Reflecting on the team’s current form, the manager believes the squad is progressing slightly ahead of expectations. “Based on Saturday’s performance, we are a bit ahead of schedule,” he said. “The players are training well and the energy in the group is excellent.”
Despite this strong start, Rowley expressed satisfaction with the existing squad depth and does not anticipate any transfer activity. “We’re happy with the team as it stands and don’t see a need to bring in anyone else at the moment,” he commented.
With spirits high after their recent win, the Glovers are ready to take on Barrow this Saturday and aim to secure back-to-back victories before returning to Huish Park for Monday’s fixture.
