Yeovil Town endured a tough journey home after a 3-0 defeat to league leaders York City, who continue to build momentum in their push for promotion. The Minstermen secured their fifth consecutive victory thanks to goals from Ollie Pearce, Josh Stones, and Joe Grey, extending their lead in the automatic promotion spots.
Despite resilient goalkeeping from Yeovil’s Jed Ward, who denied attempts from Stones and Ollie Banks, York took the lead in the 23rd minute. Captain Ollie Pearce rose highest to nod in from a cross, putting York ahead. Stones doubled the lead just before halftime with a low shot past Ward, giving York a comfortable advantage at the break.
Yeovil’s Ward kept his side in the game early in the second half, twice repelling Stones’ efforts to increase York’s tally. However, Joe Grey sealed the victory in stoppage time, scoring the Minstermen’s third goal and securing an emphatic win for manager Stuart Maynard’s side.

The result leaves York City firmly in control of automatic promotion, poised to return to the Football League after a decade away.
Following the match, Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley spoke candidly about his team’s challenges, saying, “We’re sort of limping to the line at the minute. We’ve got another injury yesterday in training; Terrell Works felt his hamstring and had to be left out. We’ve got two young academy players on the bench. Even Dak Mafico was limited to 45-60 minutes."
Rowley continued, “So look, I’ve got the violin out here a little bit. We were beaten by a far better team, definitely more equipped to win this division than we are. And rightfully so, a 3-0 win."
As Yeovil Town battles through a string of injuries and squad limitations, their final fixtures will be crucial in determining how the season concludes.
