Yeovil Town Gears Up for Tough Away Match Against Woking

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley is optimistic as his team prepares for a challenging away game against Woking in the National League. After the midweek fixture against Aldershot Town was postponed for player safety reasons, Yeovil has been able to concentrate fully on this weekend’s crucial match.

Currently sitting 14th in the league, the Glovers have shown encouraging form, winning two of their last three matches in all competitions, although their momentum was halted by a recent defeat to Brackley. Woking, who occupy 11th place, come into the game buoyed by an FA Trophy victory over Macclesfield but recently suffered a narrow loss to Wealdstone in league play.

Rowley sees the postponement as a potential advantage rather than a setback. “Sometimes you have to put a positive spin on things,” he remarked. “With a few players nursing minor injuries and the pitch conditions at the Aldershot ground, the delay has allowed us to work on our sharpness and fitness.” The team’s recent training session proved lively and engaging, with players showing alertness and readiness.

Acknowledging the ongoing transition within the squad, Rowley emphasized patience. “It’s a process, and while fans may want quicker results, these adjustments take time.” Despite the defeat at Brackley, he noted positives, especially in possession statistics, with Yeovil controlling the ball 71% of the time. “Possession alone doesn’t win games, but it’s a sign we are creating opportunities,” he said.

Understanding that each game brings unique challenges, Rowley stressed the importance of tactical flexibility. “Not every match suits fast, intricate football. Sometimes, conditions and opponents require a more direct approach.”

Goal-scoring has been a persistent issue for Yeovil this season, and it remains a key focus during training. “We are working relentlessly on our finishing. Progress is evident, but there are still areas to improve.”

Yeovil can draw confidence from their previous encounter with Woking, where Luke McCormick scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner to clinch a 1-0 victory at Huish Park.

Rowley anticipates a demanding game ahead. “Woking have talented players and will pose a tough test. Their defensive style could actually suit us by allowing quicker, more direct attacking football.”

Despite the challenges, the Yeovil manager is clear on his ambitions. “We are looking forward to the game and will be going there with the intention of securing three points.”
