Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley expressed optimism as his side prepares for a challenging away game against Woking in the capital. Following a recent postponement, the Glovers have been able to concentrate fully on their upcoming match.
Currently positioned 14th in the National League table, Yeovil Town have claimed victory in two of their last three matches across all competitions, although they came up short against Brackley on Saturday. Meanwhile, Woking sits just above them at 11th place, buoyed by a recent FA Trophy triumph over Macclesfield, though they endured a 1-0 league defeat to Wealdstone in their previous outing.
Tuesday night’s scheduled match against Aldershot Town was postponed due to player safety concerns and adverse pitch conditions. Rowley viewed this disruption positively, noting, “Sometimes you have to put a positive spin on things. We had a couple of boys carrying knocks, and playing on that pitch would have been damaging. Our training session today was very productive – the players were sharp and alert.”

The manager acknowledged that the squad is still finding its rhythm following recent changes. “It’s going to be a bit of a process,” Rowley said candidly. “No fan wants to hear that, but it is.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat at Brackley, Rowley highlighted encouraging aspects despite the poor result: “I’m indifferent about the performance; the result was disappointing, but they made it tough for us. We had good spells of control—71% possession, though possession alone doesn’t win games.”
Rowley emphasized the need to adapt tactics to varying game conditions. “Each match is different. We can’t always play fast football; sometimes the game and pitch conditions demand a different approach.”
A persistent issue for Yeovil this season has been their goal-scoring form, something Rowley is tackling head-on. “It’s a central focus every session. We’re working hard. You’ll see many positive moments, but there are still areas to improve.”
Youthful hope remains strong, with memories of a narrow 1-0 victory over Woking at Huish Park, thanks to Luke McCormick’s last-minute goal.
Anticipating another tough encounter, Rowley said, “Woking has quality players, and this will be a demanding test, but potentially one that suits us.” He added, “They tend to defend higher up, which could give us opportunities to play quicker, more direct football.”
Concluding, Rowley affirmed Yeovil’s ambitions: “We’re looking forward to the game and are determined to come away with three points.”
