Yeovil Town Frustrated After Narrow 2-1 Defeat to Boston United

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley expressed his frustration following a hard-fought 2-1 defeat against Boston United at a challenging away ground. Despite taking an early lead through Aaron Jarvis’s strike in the 17th minute—his third goal this season—the Glovers could not hold their advantage.

Boston United quickly equalised when Jake Rooney headed in from a set-piece, and the momentum shifted after halftime. Former Yeovil loanee Jody Hiwula came off the bench to clinch the winning goal for the hosts. “It’s frustrating, especially conceding so early after going one up,” Rowley said. “They scored from a set piece on their first or second visit into our box, which felt like a killer blow.”

Rowley noted the team’s decline in the second half as Boston increased their pressure. “We struggled to deal with their higher defensive line and the pressure they applied. This gave them rhythm to take the lead, and from there it was an uphill battle for us.”

Despite the loss, Rowley remained positive about Yeovil’s overall play. “We controlled the ball well and penetrated their final third more than they did ours. After 70 minutes, they might have edged possession, but we deserved more than just one goal.”

Aaron Jarvis’s performance stood out to the Yeovil boss, praising his hunger and fitness. “Jarv looked sharp today. We missed some pace in our backline, and Boston’s quality in behind was a challenge for us.”

Rowley admitted frustration over Yeovil’s difficulty converting chances. “We had many spells in their final third, yet the score was only 1-1 at one point. We’re struggling to finish; we get into good positions but sometimes falter on the final decision.”

Adding to the disappointment, Yeovil’s top scorer Luke McCormick is out for the remainder of the season following a groin operation. “Macca’s running power and ability to create and score goals will be hugely missed,” Rowley confirmed.

Yeovil will look to bounce back quickly with a trip to Woking on Tuesday night, hoping to pull away from the relegation zone.
