Yeovil Town Falls to Forest Green Rovers in Robbie Savage’s Managerial Debut

Robbie Savage celebrated his first win as Forest Green Rovers manager with a 2-0 triumph against Yeovil Town at the Bolt New Lawn in an Enterprise National League clash.

The match remained goalless in the first half, but the pace quickened after Jili Buyabu entered the game 10 minutes into the second half. Making an immediate impact on his debut, Buyabu energized the Rovers following their draw with Solihull the previous week.

Early in the half, Buyabu surged forward and delivered a cross that found Christian Doidge. However, the former Hibernian striker’s header narrowly flew over the crossbar. Shortly after, Nicky Haughton tested the Yeovil defense with a shot that rebounded off the post.

Buyabu continued creating chances, setting up Doidge again for a close header that just went wide. The breakthrough came 15 minutes from time when Buyabu’s low cross was inadvertently deflected into the net by a Yeovil defender, putting Forest Green ahead.

Yeovil Town’s frustrations deepened when Jake Wannell received a second yellow card for handball, reducing his side to ten men with just minutes remaining. In stoppage time, Kairo Mitchell sealed the win by calmly finishing from close range after reacting quickest to a loose ball.

Forest Green Rovers’ victory marks a promising start to Robbie Savage’s managerial tenure, while Yeovil Town face the challenge of regrouping after a tough defeat on the road.
