Yeovil Town Fall Short as Aldershot Claim 2-1 Victory

Yeovil Town endured a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home against Aldershot Town on Tuesday evening, as the visitors’ second-half surge proved decisive. Despite an impressive equalizer from Terrell Works, the Glovers were unable to overcome Aldershot’s clinical finishing, with Sean Patton netting the winner 16 minutes from time.

Aldershot began strongly, pressing Yeovil early and earning a corner within the first five minutes. The breakthrough came shortly after when Olly Scott’s expertly placed right-footed strike from the edge of the area found the bottom-right corner, leaving Yeovil goalkeeper Jed Ward with no chance. James Henry’s subsequent free-kick tested Ward, who parried it away for a corner.

Yeovil rallied and were rewarded on the 26-minute mark when Works cut inside from the left wing and unleashed a powerful shot from distance, leveling the score. The first half ended in a stalemate as both sides had their spells of possession without further clear chances.

The second half saw Aldershot come out with renewed intensity. Scott nearly doubled his tally but missed narrowly from a tight angle. Yeovil substitute Jonathon Page had a promising opportunity but fired over the bar. Ward continued to keep Yeovil in the match with crucial saves, including a last-ditch smother after a powerful strike from Jed Meerholz seemed destined for the net.

Yeovil’s defense was tested when a misdirected back-pass almost resulted in an own goal, but Ward again intervened heroically. However, Aldershot’s persistent pressure paid off in a chaotic goalmouth scramble, with Patton the quickest to react and push the ball over the line despite Ward’s desperate efforts.

In the closing stages, Aldershot managed the game professionally, maintaining possession and frustrating Yeovil as they searched in vain for a late equalizer.

Post-match, Yeovil manager Billy Rowley acknowledged Aldershot’s superiority: “They were dangerous, and when you let them be dangerous, they’re even more so. My criticism is that we weren’t ready for the battle. We knew it was going to be tough physically and mentally, but we didn’t match it. We were weak in duels and lacked leadership on the pitch. Credit to Aldershot—they were miles better than us tonight. The game was gritty; it was time to roll up sleeves, and we didn’t do it.”
