Yeovil Town dominate Boston United with impressive 6-0 victory

Yeovil Town delivered a commanding 6-0 victory against Boston United at Huish Park, with manager Billy Rowley recognising the significance of his team’s relentless attacking approach. The match remained fairly balanced until Yeovil broke the deadlock, after which the Glovers surged forward with four goals in a 12-minute spell during the first half. Ryan Jones opened the scoring, followed swiftly by strikes from Brett McGavin, James Daly, and Johl Powell, establishing a 4-0 lead by half-time.

After the interval, Mason Obeng added a fifth goal before Powell secured his second from the penalty spot, cementing Yeovil’s strong position in the National League by moving up to fourth place.

Rowley remarked on the turning point: “The floodgates opened a little bit, which sometimes happens in football.” He emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum, explaining that he encouraged the team to keep pressing rather than becoming complacent after taking the lead. “The message for the boys was at no point give up on trying to score.”

Substitutes also made a notable contribution as Rowley made changes with the game in hand. “I’m really happy for all the subs who came on; they were instrumental in maintaining the right energy and vibe,” he said. “The message for them was to keep a clean sheet and keep trying to score, and they did an exceptional job.”

The match also saw the debut of new signing Owen Dean, recently acquired from Farnham Town. Rowley praised Dean’s qualities, highlighting his aerial ability, timing, and goal-scoring potential. “He’s an exceptional talent, a very unique player,” Rowley stated.

When asked about the absence of Luke McCormick, Rowley acknowledged a dispute between the two but refrained from discussing it in detail. “My priority is always what’s best for the team, and at the moment Luke will not be playing for me.”

This victory marks Yeovil Town’s highest league goal tally in a single match since 2019. The Glovers look to continue their strong run when they face Wealdstone away next Saturday, aiming for a sixth consecutive match unbeaten. Additionally, Yeovil will discover their opponents for the FA Cup Fourth Round qualifying stage on Monday.
