Yeovil Town’s interim manager Billy Rowley says their FA Trophy run is more than just a competition; it’s a dream within reach. As they prepare to face National League South’s Maidstone United in the third round, Rowley emphasizes the importance of the tie, noting, “It’s hugely important — we’re just five or six games from Wembley.”
The Glovers enter this match boosted by a two-game winning streak, including an impressive away victory at Hartlepool United. Reflecting on that hard-fought win, Rowley said, “The long and gruelling coach journey gave me a chance to connect with the lads and coaching staff. Preparation was solid, and the team executed well defensively while capitalizing on our chances.”
Having been in charge for just two weeks, Rowley is gaining insight into the squad’s character. “They’ve endured a rollercoaster few months but have shown tremendous resilience without a hint of complaints,” he said. He also highlighted the open competition within the squad: “Every game is a new challenge and a clean slate. All players are keen to impress in training and earn their spot.”

Maidstone United come into Huish Park in good form as well, having recently beaten Torquay 2-0 and secured six points from their last two league fixtures. The Stones hold a slight edge in recent encounters, having won a 2-1 match earlier this year, although Yeovil topped the National League South in 2024.
Rowley described Maidstone as “a physical side that plays with high intensity, pressing hard and thriving on transitions.” He added, “We’ve prepared strategies to counter their style.”
The Glovers face some lineup challenges: Morgan Williams will miss three games following an unsuccessful appeal against suspension, which Rowley acknowledged as “a blow,” but he expressed confidence in replacements like Finn Cousin Dawson, who excelled in the last outing. Max Jolliffe remains unavailable due to being cup-tied, and James Plant is still sidelined.
Despite these setbacks, Rowley values squad continuity and is not rushing to add new players. Encouragingly, Josh Sims (“Simsy”) returns from injury and is available for selection.
In transfer news, Yeovil announced the season-long loan signing of Josh Tobin from League Two club Bromley. Rowley praised Tobin’s versatility and skill, highlighting his ability to cover multiple positions.
With both teams in strong form and a promising cup journey ahead, Rowley is keen for Yeovil to deliver an entertaining performance for their fans as they look to secure a place in the next round’s draw.
Additionally, the club confirmed the contract terminations of Richard Dryden and Jerry Gill, thanking both for their service and wishing them well.
