Yeovil Town Aims for Wembley with FA Trophy Showdown Against Maidstone United

Billy Rowley, Yeovil Town’s manager, is focused as the Glovers gear up to face Maidstone United in the third round of the FA Trophy. “It is hugely important; it’s five or six games from Wembley,” Rowley emphasized, underscoring the significance of this cup run to the team.

Yeovil come into the fixture on the back of two convincing wins, including a challenging away victory over Hartlepool. Reflecting on that match, Rowley said, “The long coach journey was tiring, but it gave me a chance to really bond with the squad and coaching staff.” He praised the team’s preparation and execution, noting, “The boys defended well and capitalized on our chances.”

Having been in charge for just two weeks, Rowley is already gaining insight into his squad. “I really admire their character and resilience,” he commented. “Despite a turbulent past few months, the players have remained positive and focused. Every game presents a new challenge—it’s a clean slate each time.”

Opportunities for players to break into the starting lineup are plentiful, with Rowley highlighting that “everyone is putting in hard work during training and showing they want to be involved.”

Maidstone arrive in impressive form as well, having beaten Torquay 2-0 in the previous FA Trophy round and securing six points from their last two league games. The sides have a recent history too, with Maidstone winning their last encounter 2-1 in 2024. Yeovil has not beaten the Stones since an FA Cup clash in 2015.

Rowley, familiar with Maidstone’s style under George Elokobi, described them as “a physical team that plays direct, excels in transitions, and applies intense pressure.” Yeovil has prepared specific tactics to counter these threats.

Squad-wise, Yeovil will be missing Morgan Williams due to a three-game suspension following an unsuccessful appeal. Rowley acknowledged the setback but expressed confidence in the replacements: “Finn Cousin Dawson stepped up excellently in his absence.” Max Jolliffe is also unavailable, cup-tied after representing Billericay Town earlier in the tournament, and James Plant remains sidelined.

Despite these absences, Rowley remains patient and positive, noting, “I’m not rushing to bring in new players. I have a lot of faith in this squad.” Josh Sims is set to return from injury after missing the last game, providing another boost for Yeovil.

In transfer news, Yeovil have secured their first signing of the new management era. Josh Tobin joins on a season-long loan from League Two club Bromley. Rowley lauded Tobin’s versatility and skill, saying, “He can cover three or four positions and adds valuable talent to the squad.”

With both teams in good form and the prospect of a cup run ahead, Rowley urges his players to deliver an entertaining performance for the fans as they aim to progress to the next round.

The club has also announced the termination of contracts for Richard Dryden and Jerry Gill, extending gratitude for their service and wishing them well in the future.
