Yeovil Town Advance in FA Trophy After Thrilling Penalty Shootout Victory

Yeovil Town secured their place in the FA Trophy fourth round after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Maidstone United, ending 4-2 on spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw in regular time at Huish Park.

The match remained largely quiet for most of the 90 minutes, but the final moments delivered all the excitement. Substitute midfielder Josh Tobin, recently signed on loan, headed home a decisive cross from James Daly late in the game, seemingly clinching the victory for the Glovers.

However, Maidstone United responded swiftly in stoppage time. A defensive lapse allowed Hamzad Kargbo to slot in an equalizer in the 92nd minute, pushing the match into penalties.

In the shootout, Yeovil’s goalkeeper Jed Ward emerged as the ultimate hero. The Bristol Rovers loanee saved the first two penalty attempts from Antony Papadopoulos and David Sesay, setting the tone for his team. Meanwhile, Yeovil’s penalty takers maintained their composure, with Andrew Oluwabori calmly converting the winning spot-kick to seal the victory.

Ward’s heroics ensured Yeovil Town advances in the FA Trophy, keeping their cup hopes alive.
