Yeovil Labour Club Faces Licence Revocation Over Antisocial Behaviour and Drug Use

Yeovil Labour Club, also known as Unity Hall, located in Yeovil town center, has lost its licence due to numerous incidents of drug use, intoxication, and antisocial behaviour. The club has been collaborating with law enforcement and licensing officers since 2022 to address the issues. Despite efforts, the council has decided to revoke its licence and issued a three-month ultimatum for the club to rectify the situation.

The club, originally issued a licence by South Somerset District Council, had permissions for serving alcohol, hosting events, and entertainment activities. However, ongoing antisocial behavior and criminal incidents prompted the council to take action.

The decision was made in a closed-door meeting in response to the club’s problematic track record. Licensing officer Rachel Lloyd outlined the issues, emphasizing the high levels of undesirable behavior and multiple incidents that led to the three-month improvement plan.

The plan involved implementing age verification policies, staff training, establishing anti-drug measures, and maintaining an incident log. However, subsequent issues arose, leading to further action from the police.

Subsequently, the police recommended the removal of the current designated premises supervisor, revocation of the premises certificate, and a temporary licence suspension to facilitate management changes. New conditions were proposed for the club’s licence following any potential reinstatement.

The council has now officially revoked the club’s licence, offering a window for an appeal at Yeovil Magistrates Court until April 21.
