Yeovil Garden Centre Triumphs with Award-Winning Eco-Friendly Christmas Displays

Brimsmore Gardens in Yeovil has once again emerged as a national leader, winning the Garden Centre Association’s (GCA) annual Christmas Display Competition in the Local Garden Centre Category. This victory marks the fifteenth time a centre from The Gardens Group has secured top honours in the past two decades.

The accolade underscores a remarkable year for The Gardens Group, with Poundbury Gardens near Dorchester achieving second place nationally, and Castle Gardens in Sherborne earning finalist status in the regional rankings for larger garden centres.

Judges Alyson Haywood and Peter Walker evaluated entries based on ambience, creativity, product range, flow, and tidiness. Haywood praised this year’s displays, highlighting their “exceptional creativity and festive brilliance,” noting immersive experiences filled with sensory storytelling and spectacular visual elements. Walker also commended the expertly themed departments and inventive use of lighting, height, and theatrical touches that enlivened every corner.

Under the creative guidance of The Gardens Group director Louise Burks, the displays incorporated eco-conscious themes such as The Gruffalo, Alice in Wonderland, Tinsel Town, and a Highland Christmas. These captivating designs made extensive use of sustainable materials, including repurposed ornaments, recycled candles, glass baubles, LED lights, and plastic-free toys.

Burks expressed immense pride in her teams’ achievements: “We are absolutely thrilled that Brimsmore Gardens has claimed the top prize twice in four years, and that Poundbury Gardens secured second place. The industry continually raises the bar, especially as we strive for more eco-friendly, immersive experiences each year. These awards are a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone at The Gardens Group.”

Visitors can experience these magical Christmas displays at Brimsmore Gardens, Castle Gardens, and Poundbury Gardens daily until Christmas Eve.
