Workshop Containing Fuel Destroyed by Fire in Somerset

A fire broke out last night, February 4, engulfing a workshop containing machinery and fuel in Bridgwater, Somerset. The garage, located in the rear garden of a property on Taunton Road, was reported ablaze to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue at 7:22 pm. Two crews from Bridgwater were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage well alight and at risk of the fire spreading to an adjacent garage. To assist, a third crew from Burnham-on-Sea joined the response effort. Thanks to the quick work of the crews, the fire was contained to the initial garage, while the neighboring garage sustained only smoke damage.

The blaze was fully brought under control by 9:10 pm. Although the fire completely destroyed the workshop’s contents and caused approximately 80% structural damage to the building, there were no injuries reported. Emergency teams used four sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a safety jet, and two triple extension ladders to extinguish the fire.

After extinguishing the flames, firefighters employed three thermal imaging cameras to detect and cool any remaining hotspots. The adjacent garage, despite being smoke-logged, avoided significant damage. The fire is believed to have started accidentally, and responsibility for the property has now been returned to the owners.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue praised the crews' effective coordination and rapid response that prevented greater loss and ensured everyone’s safety.
