A JCB works vehicle caught fire on the A358 Hornsbury Hill in Chard, Somerset, causing significant damage and temporarily blocking a busy road. The incident occurred around 4:23 pm on April 11, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Two fire engines from Chard and Axminster, along with a water carrier from Yeovil, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the JCB engulfed in flames. Utilizing two breathing apparatus and a compressed air foam jet, crews worked quickly to control and extinguish the fire.
Police officers were also on-site, assisting with traffic management while the road remained blocked during the emergency response.

An update from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service at 8:26 pm confirmed the fire was fully extinguished. The JCB sustained approximately 20% damage from fire and 80% from smoke. The fire was contained to the vehicle’s engine bay, and the cause was determined to be accidental.
