Construction on Bath’s new police station is officially scheduled to start this August, Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed. Initially planned for a 2025 opening at Plymouth House on Monmouth Street, the completion date has now shifted to summer 2026.
Bath’s former police station on Manvers Street was sold in 2015 due to high upkeep costs and its inability to meet the demands of modern policing. Since then, local police teams have operated out of Redbridge House and Lewis House. Chief Inspector Scott Hill, Area Commander for Bath and North East Somerset, emphasized the importance of the new facility: “Our priority is delivering the best possible service to the community, which means our officers and staff need efficient, modern spaces to work in.”
The new Plymouth House station will unite neighbourhood and response teams under one roof, creating a modern, fit-for-purpose environment in the city centre. “This will enable us to work more productively together and provide outstanding policing for Bath,” added Chief Inspector Hill.

Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody highlighted her commitment to strengthening neighbourhood policing, stating: “Securing a dedicated police site in Bath is a key priority. This announcement supports community-focused policing and reinvigorates our presence in the city.”
Bath is considered a relatively safe city, boasting a crime rate 10% lower than the national average, although it is 19% higher than the regional average. It is also ranked as the safest major town in Somerset, according to the Crime Rate data analysis project.
During the refurbishment of Plymouth House, police services will continue operating from the One Stop Shop at Lewis House on Manvers Street and Redbridge House on Lower Bristol Road. The Manvers Street Police Station remains open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Residents can find more information about contacting their local policing team on the Avon and Somerset Police website.
