Construction has officially started on 105 new homes within walking distance of Haygrove School in Bridgwater. The Bristol-based developer Lovell Homes, in partnership with Notaro New Homes, is spearheading the second phase of this major housing project called “Durleigh View,” located on Haygrove Road.
This follows the first phase—Durleigh Gardens—where 81 homes were delivered by Notaro. After David Wilson Homes withdrew from the project, Lovell joined forces with Notaro, and Somerset Council granted revised planning permission in May 2025 to complete the development. The total investment for Durleigh View amounts to £36.5 million.
The new homes will range from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses, with 30% (32 homes) designated as affordable housing, in compliance with the original planning approval. Each house will feature modern energy-efficient technology, including air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points. In a nod to environmental stewardship, an otter holt will also be created to support local wildlife.

Access to the site will be from Haygrove Road near the junction with Stag Valley Road. The new phase will connect with Fallow View Road at its southern edge, creating a complete circular route around the development. Additionally, up to 150 metres of new footpaths will link phase two with phase one, St Matthew’s Field, and public rights of way toward the Meads eco-park and a planned future housing development on Rhode Lane.
Anthony Vagges, Regional Managing Director of Lovell Homes, expressed pride in the project, highlighting the development’s high specification and energy efficiency tailored to Somerset’s housing needs. Meanwhile, Joe Notaro, Managing Director of S. Notaro Ltd., welcomed the start of phase two and emphasized the careful design and desirable location of the homes.
Two show homes—one three-bedroom and one five-bedroom—are set to open this summer, with the full completion of the project expected by 2029.
Councillor Sarah Wakefield, portfolio holder for adults services, housing, and homelessness at Somerset Council, called this milestone a significant achievement after extensive collaboration among the council, Notaro, and Lovell teams to deliver much-needed affordable housing in the area.
