Woman’s Life Altered After Severe Asthma Attack

After suffering a serious asthma attack, Hayley Coombs has been left with a neurological disorder that has drastically changed her life. The attack, followed by a prolonged seizure, resulted in her inability to feel her left leg and a diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), which disrupts communication between the brain and body.

Due to FND, Hayley now requires a feeding tube and faces challenges with basic mobility. She also grapples with dysphagia, making it impossible for her to swallow without the assistance of an NG tube for nutrition, hydration, and medication. To add to the difficulties, her current home is unsuitable as it is not wheelchair accessible, posing significant limitations to her daily life.

In need of specialized medical equipment, including a suction machine that is not covered by the NHS and costs at least £1,800, Hayley and her family are confronting financial strains. While preparing to move to a more suitable residence, they are launching a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the expenses. With only her partner’s income and mounting costs, the support garnered from the campaign is vital for her medical needs and relocation.

Hayley shared, “The new house will be a challenge for us, hopefully a blessing though. But with me not working and not having any support money, we’re relying solely on Tom’s wages to keep the house going… which isn’t a lot.”
