A woman in her 30s was seriously injured after her horse was spooked by a van travelling at speed in Melksham, Wiltshire. The incident occurred at approximately 9.30am on July 31 as the rider was leaving an equestrian lodge on Lower Woodrow Road.
According to Wiltshire Police, the speeding van passed the horse, causing it to throw the rider off. Tragically, the horse then stepped on the victim, resulting in serious injuries.
Wiltshire Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward or anyone who may have dash cam footage of the van involved. The vehicle is described as white with brown markings along the side.

The police emphasised the importance of drivers passing horses “wide and slow,” maintaining at least two metres distance and reducing speed to no more than 10mph to prevent similar incidents.
