A woman is currently fighting for her life after a serious multi-vehicle crash on the M5 motorway in Somerset early Sunday morning, May 10. The incident occurred between junction 24 (Huntworth) and junction 25 (Taunton), prompting emergency services to respond swiftly, including the deployment of an air ambulance.
National Highways confirmed that the southbound carriageway of the M5 was closed due to the collision, causing considerable disruption. The northbound carriageway was initially blocked but later reopened. However, the southbound lanes remain closed and are expected to be shut until around midday while police carry out thorough investigations.
Avon and Somerset Police reported that the woman, involved in a collision with a blue BMW, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital. Authorities have informed her next of kin as a precaution.
