Woman Falls in River Prompting Large Emergency Response in West Country Town

A woman’s fall into the River Exe in Topsham, Devon on Saturday night prompted a substantial emergency response from multiple services. Locals rushed to aid in the search and rescue efforts as authorities mobilized to locate the woman.

Topsham Quay was inundated with emergency vehicles and personnel as a collective effort was made to retrieve the woman from the waters. The response involved teams from the police, ambulance, fire and rescue, RNLI lifeboat, and both the police and Coastguard helicopters.

Although the woman was eventually rescued from the water, her current condition remains uncertain as no official update has been provided. HM Coastguard confirmed their involvement in the incident and reported the woman’s retrieval with the assistance of various response units.

Eyewitness Andrew Bowen, who was cycling in the area at the time, described the chaotic scene as he and others attempted to aid in the location of the distressed woman. The challenging estuary conditions added to the complexity of the situation with low tide and muddy waters.

The community’s immediate response was marked by a collective effort to assist the emergency services in locating the woman, emphasizing a shared concern for the well-being of those in distress.
