Woman Critically Injured in Two-Car Collision Near Taunton

A woman has been hospitalized with potentially life-changing injuries following a two-car collision on the A358 near Thornfalcon, just outside Taunton. The accident occurred shortly before 1 pm on Sunday, January 4.

Emergency services swiftly responded, temporarily closing the road to manage the situation. A total of seven individuals were involved in the crash, with paramedics providing treatment at the scene for the other six.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson appealed to witnesses to come forward as the cause of the crash remains under investigation. “At 12:57 pm, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision near Thornfalcon on the A358,” said the spokesperson. “Emergency services attended promptly, and the road has since reopened. The woman taken to hospital has injuries that, while not currently life-threatening, could have a significant impact on her life. Anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet spoken to the police is urged to call 101 with reference number 5226002549.”

Traffic delays lasted approximately three hours, with normal conditions resuming around 4 pm.

Firefighters from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service assisted ambulance crews, using specialized equipment to free one person trapped inside their vehicle. “Fire control received a call from police for assistance at the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the A358 near Thornfalcon,” a service spokesperson said. “Two fire engines from Taunton were dispatched and confirmed one person was trapped. Our crews worked alongside paramedics to safely release the casualty. All seven casualties were medically assessed at the scene.”
