A woman is fighting for her life after a serious multi-vehicle crash on the M5 in Somerset early Sunday morning, May 10. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene of the collision between junction 24 (Huntworth) and junction 25 (Taunton).
The crash, involving a blue BMW, resulted in the southbound carriageway of the M5 being closed for several hours while police conducted investigations. The northbound lanes were also temporarily blocked but reopened later in the morning. Officials expect the southbound closure to last until around midday.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the woman involved sustained life-threatening injuries and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Her next of kin have been informed.

National Highways reported that all previously trapped traffic has been released, though a diversion remains in place for southbound motorists. Authorities continue to manage the scene as investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
