Avon and Somerset Police have launched a thorough investigation following a serious assault in Wellington early this morning. At approximately 2:20 am on May 22, a woman was reportedly punched and raped by an unknown male attacker in the North Street area.
The victim was promptly taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged to continue recovery at home. Authorities have described the suspect as a slim male, aged between 35 and 40, possibly of mixed heritage. He has black hair and a distinctive tattoo on his arm. At the time of the attack, he was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt with black writing.
The suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Golf. Police have established a cordon around the area and Crime Scene Investigators have meticulously examined the location.

Detective Inspector Wendy Fellowes from the RASSO unit (Op Bluestone) emphasized the commitment of Avon and Somerset Police to the case: “We understand the community’s concern, and we want to assure everyone that a comprehensive investigation is underway with multiple lines of enquiry.”
Inspector Fellowes added that the victim has been offered ongoing support services. While incidents like this are rare in Wellington, the police suspect the attacker is not local and therefore believe there is no continuing threat to the public.
Authorities are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV footage capturing a white Volkswagen Golf in the areas of Waterloo Road, North Street, High Street, Fore Street, and Taunton Road between 1 am and 2:30 am to come forward.
