Wincanton Racecourse had to call off their race fixture due to heavy rainfall, but the disappointment of the cancellation led to a heartwarming charitable act. The food prepared for the racegoers on Thursday, December 7, was instead donated to two local charities as a result of the cancellation caused by severe rainfall.
The fixture was set to feature the first Jump race riding appearance by three-time UK champion Flat jockey, Oisin Murphy. However, the excessive rain prompted the abandonment of the event before any races could take place. Despite this setback, the prepared food originally intended for the racegoers found a new purpose, benefiting two local good causes - Wincanton Foodbank and ARC Homeless Charity in Taunton.
The Wincanton Foodbank received prepacked lunch items and snacks, while freshly made items like sandwiches and cakes were donated to ARC Homeless Charity. Blaithin Murphy, the general manager at Wincanton Racecourse, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the community, emphasizing the strong relationship established with ARC Homeless Charity in Taunton by Head Chef Ian Brimacombe.
