A jockey was rushed to hospital after a fall from his horse at Wincanton Racecourse today. Louis Burke fell from his mount, Danzini, at the seventh jump during the opening Molson Coors ‘Hands And Heels’ Handicap Hurdle race.
Emergency services, including paramedics and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, were called to the scene at 12:31 pm on Thursday, November 20. Following the incident, Burke was initially treated in the jockey medical room before being transported by ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital for further evaluation.
A spokesperson from Wincanton Racecourse confirmed Burke’s fall in the first race and his subsequent transfer to hospital for assessment. South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) stated they dispatched a double-crewed land ambulance and an air ambulance, transporting the patient by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital.

The air ambulance team included a doctor and specialist practitioner in critical care, both experts in pre-hospital emergency medicine, with the aircraft crewed by a pilot and co-pilot.
Racing at Wincanton was delayed by approximately 30 minutes due to the emergency response, resuming at around 1:50 pm with the Mares' Maiden Hurdle, which was won by St Irene, ridden by JM Quinlan.
