This year’s Wells Food Festival, held on Sunday, October 12, offers an exciting opportunity for visitors to win a year’s supply of Charlie Bigham’s meals. The Somerset-based company, celebrating its fifth year as the festival’s headline sponsor, is bringing a unique blend of heritage, sustainability, and culinary delight to the event.
A standout feature is the upcycling competition inviting festival-goers to creatively transform Charlie Bigham’s signature poplar-wood trays into innovative new items. These trays, crafted since 2007 by a family-run business in France, boast a carbon footprint ten times lower than standard aluminium trays, reflecting the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The competition winner will receive a year’s worth of meals, with runners-up awarded vouchers.
Attendees can also explore a compelling historical photography exhibition at the Quarry Kitchen site, which reveals the fascinating evolution of Dulcote Quarry—from its roots as a lime quarry to its present role as home to Charlie Bigham’s kitchen. Spanning 60 acres, the site harmoniously blends food production with wildlife conservation and eco-friendly design, demonstrating the company’s dedication to sustainable business practices since acquiring the property in 2017.

Founder Charlie Bigham expressed enthusiasm for the festival’s continued success: “We’re thrilled to be part of the Wells Food Festival for the sixth year running. Located just a stone’s throw from our Quarry Kitchen, this event beautifully showcases the talent and passion of the Southwest’s food producers. With over 300 local employees, we’re proud to support the community and offer food that people love.”
In addition to competitions and exhibits, Charlie Bigham’s will host a stand serving beloved dishes such as Fish Pie and Lasagne, alongside some lesser-known menu favorites—all available with exclusive festival offers.
The company’s ongoing sponsorship reaffirms its core values of hand-prepared meals, small-batch production, and sustainable practices—principles that have shaped its reputation over 28 years.
