Step into the world of Jane Austen and celebrate your love with a unique Regency-style wedding or vow renewal this September in Bath. Bath & North East Somerset Council has launched a competition offering one lucky couple the chance to marry or renew their vows at the charming bandstand in Parade Gardens, overlooking the historic Pulteney Bridge and the elegant Colonnades.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, immediately following the annual Jane Austen Festival parade. The parade begins at 11 a.m. from the Royal Crescent and draws crowds of fans adorned in period costumes, evoking the spirit of the early 19th century.
To enter, couples need to submit the title of their own love story, imagining it as a romantic novel. Entries can be sent via email or post and must be received by Sunday, July 20.

Councillor Manda Rigby expressed excitement about the competition: “Whether you are planning your wedding or looking to celebrate your enduring love with a vow renewal, this is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the romance of the Regency era. Imagine exchanging your vows surrounded by the charm of Jane Austen’s world—or even a Bridgerton-inspired setting.”
The winning couple will enjoy the services of Bath’s registrars, who will also dress in Regency attire, creating a truly immersive experience. The bandstand ceremony can accommodate up to 40 guests, all encouraged to wear period costume to enhance the atmosphere.
To enter, email your love story title to [email protected] or send it by post to Bath and North East Somerset Registration Service, Guildhall, Bath, BA1 5AW. Please note that council staff are not eligible to participate.
