Will Smeed has signed a contract extension with Somerset County Cricket Club, securing his stay until the end of 2027. The talented top-order batter, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2026, will now continue to represent Somerset in both white ball and red ball formats.
Since making his First XI debut during the 2020 Vitality Blast against Worcestershire, Smeed has steadily risen through the ranks. He signed his first professional contract ahead of the 2021 season and quickly established himself as a key player for the club.
Over 81 T20 matches, Smeed has amassed 2,290 runs at an average of 30.13, scoring 17 half-centuries. He also made history in 2022 by becoming the first batter to hit a century in The Hundred tournament. His impact was pivotal in Somerset’s 2023 Vitality Blast triumph, notably scoring 94 runs from just 58 balls to earn the Player of the Match award in the final.

Reflecting on his career, Smeed said, “Somerset is where I’ve spent my whole career, and I love everything about it — the team, the ground, the supporters. Winning the Blast last season was incredible, and it fuels my hunger for more success. I’m committed to performing strongly in all formats and especially want to break into the red ball side this year. Securing a place in the Championship team and contributing to winning that coveted title is a big goal for me.”
Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Smeed’s versatile talent: “Will’s impact in white ball cricket is undeniable, with his innings from last season’s Blast final etched in our memories. We’re thrilled he has committed to all formats, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and influence in the coming years.”
