Widcombe Junior School Champions Clean Air with Filters & Hedges

Widcombe Junior School in Bath has demonstrated its dedication to improving the environment and safeguarding the health of its pupils and community. Through the proactive involvement of parents and carers, the school successfully raised £5,000 to purchase and install air filters in each classroom, marking a significant step towards better air quality.

In line with Energy Saving Week, the fundraising initiative forms part of a broader campaign aimed at reducing traffic pollution and minimizing allergen and asthma triggers to enhance overall air quality within the school premises. Moreover, a ‘clean-air day’ was organized to encourage parents and carers to opt for alternative modes of transport, further contributing to the reduction of air pollutants during school drop-off and pick-up times.

Complementing these efforts, the school community also rallied to raise funds for the planting of sixty hedges around the school’s perimeter. This green infrastructure acts as a protective barrier, offering additional shielding for the pupils while serving as an educational tool to underscore the significance of climate change and environmental protection within the school’s curriculum.
