This summer, Bath city centre will see an unusual sight: hundreds of people strolling through the streets in their pyjamas. On the night of Saturday, July 5, the annual Midnight Walk will bring together fundraisers donning fuzzy dressing gowns and animal slippers to support Dorothy House hospices.
Starting at 9 pm at Bath Pavilion, participants will enjoy food, drinks, and warm-up activities before setting off on their routes. The 10-kilometre walkers take off at 10:30 pm, followed by the 5-kilometre walkers at 10:45 pm. Along the way, they’ll pass some of Bath’s most iconic landmarks, including The Victoria Art Gallery, Henrietta Park, The Circus, The Royal Crescent, The Guildhall, and The Abbey, finishing back at the Pavilion.
Dorothy House spokesperson shared: “The Midnight Walk is a cherished event in both the Dorothy House and Bath calendars. This year, the funds raised will directly support our Hospice at Home service—a dedicated team providing compassionate care to patients in their own homes, day and night, allowing families to focus on being families rather than carers. Register now to help us extend this essential care throughout Bath and beyond.”

Participants can also enjoy exciting incentives. Every entrant is entered into a draw to win a bottle of prosecco. Those who raise over £100 could win afternoon tea for two at Cumberwell Golf Club. Fundraisers who collect £200 or more enter a draw for a £68 voucher at Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa. Raising over £300 enters you into a draw for a £100 voucher at The Ivy. And those going above £500 will receive an exclusive Midnight Walk hoodie.
Dorothy House serves people with life-limiting illnesses across a wide region, including Bath, Keynsham, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet, and Frome. While the organisation operates a hospice in Winsley, much of its care is provided in people’s homes within the community.
However, the charity is facing significant financial challenges. Operating costs have risen sharply from £46,000 a day in 2022 to £52,000 in 2024. Hollywood actor and supporter John Cleese emphasized the importance of the hospice’s work: “Everyone will know someone who needs local hospice support at some point. Dorothy House provides essential care—from night-time respite for carers to symptom management and bereavement support. Yet, financial pressures are threatening these vital services. I stand with Dorothy House—will you join me to protect them?”
The Midnight Walk is open to anyone aged 12 and over, with an entry fee of £22. Those interested can sign up online and join the community in making a difference—one pajama-clad step at a time.
