Whirligig Festival Returns to Weston Streets with Free Family Weekend

The Whirligig Festival is set to return to Weston-super-Mare, offering three days of circus, clowning, and vibrant chaos from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8. This award-winning event, hosted by Super Culture, will bring a fusion of outdoor arts and European eccentricity to newly selected locations that connect the town center with the seafront.

The festival will showcase a diverse range of acclaimed acts from the UK and Europe, promising a lively and family-friendly daytime program on Saturday and Sunday. Audiences can look forward to free performances that will transform the streets of Weston and spill a wave of culture onto the promenade.

The festivities kick off on Friday evening with the first of two ‘pay-what-you-decide’ ticketed shows, presenting MDR – Death From Laughter by Spanish company Los Galindos. This darkly comic farce weaves a tale of friendship, an outlandish crime, a suspicious trial, and an absurd punishment, all portrayed through top-tier clowning.

Joe Mackintosh, the artistic director of the Out There Festival in Great Yarmouth, has hailed the show as “dark and hilariously outdoor clowning theatre of the highest calibre that you are likely to ever see in your life – the title is ‘Death from Laughter,’ and it’s a real possibility with this show!”
