Two-thirds of people say a walk becomes more appealing if it ends at a pub, with more than half willing to extend their walk by up to an extra hour to reach one. Remarkably, some walkers would add over two hours just to finish their route at a great pub, according to recent research from Thatchers Cider.
The study also revealed that good scenery and countryside settings are the top factors when choosing a walking route, with 3 to 5 kilometers being the ideal distance for a leisurely stroll. Inspired by these insights, Thatchers Cider, in partnership with OS Maps by Ordnance Survey (OS), has launched ‘Pint Sized Walks’—a new collection of circular, scenic pub walks designed to make it easier than ever to enjoy a refreshing pint at the end of a perfect walk.
The Pint Sized Walks series features walking routes across some of the UK’s most beloved destinations, including coastal retreats, countryside escapes, and national parks. Locations range from Cornwall and Devon to Pembrokeshire, Hampshire, Cumbria, and Fife, with more routes set to be added.

Martin Thatcher, cider maker at Thatchers Cider, explained: “There’s something wonderfully simple about finishing a good walk in a pub. It’s the perfect blend of enjoying the outdoors and then relaxing, reconnecting, and spending quality time with friends and family. Our research shows that the promise of a great pub at the end motivates many Brits to walk that extra mile.”
Nick Giles, OS Managing Director for Leisure, added: “Millions across Britain use OS Maps to discover new places for walking and outdoor adventure, and pubs often play a central role in that experience. Our data highlights a growing appetite for shorter, achievable routes that fit into everyday life, especially those with welcoming spots to stop, relax, and socialise. That’s why Pint Sized Walks is so successful — it makes the outdoors feel accessible and connects people with the communities they love.”
The first batch of Pint Sized Walks is now available via the OS Maps app, with all routes featuring a pub serving Thatchers Cider along the way.
