JD Wetherspoon has opened one of its largest pubs yet, The Red Rocks, at the Haven Devon Cliffs holiday park in Exmouth. This impressive venue can serve up to 2,000 pints on its busiest days and accommodate nearly 700 guests at a time — making it a major new destination for holidaymakers.
Unlike traditional Wetherspoon locations in town centres, The Red Rocks is situated within the holiday park, offering visitors a spacious and welcoming spot to enjoy a pint while on their break. The new pub represents an investment close to £2 million and spans around 7,500 square feet indoors, with an outdoor area of the same size. The venue’s footprint is roughly equivalent to three tennis courts, creating plenty of room for relaxation and socialising.
Run on a franchise basis by Haven, which operates 38 parks across the UK, The Red Rocks is the fifth Wetherspoon pub at one of its holiday sites, with more to come. The pub employs a team of 70 staff and will open daily throughout July and August from 8 am until midnight Sunday to Thursday, and until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

A distinctive feature of The Red Rocks is its unique carpet design, part of Wetherspoon’s tradition where each pub’s flooring reflects its local surroundings or name. Here, the carpet’s hues are inspired by the Devon coastline, adding a personal touch to the venue’s atmosphere.
Although The Red Rocks is among the largest, the record for the UK’s biggest Wetherspoon belongs to the Royal Victoria Villa in Ramsgate, Kent, which can hold up to 1,400 people following a significant refurbishment.
Haven’s Devon Cliffs park itself houses approximately 1,800 caravans capable of accommodating up to six guests each, with the entire park expected to welcome around 10,000 visitors during the bank holiday weekend. Simon Palethorpe, Haven’s chief executive, praised The Red Rocks as a “terrific addition” to their flagship park, emphasising guests’ appreciation for familiar food and drink brands on site.
John Hutson, CEO of JD Wetherspoon, expressed enthusiasm about the new pub, confident it will be a popular choice for holidaymakers of all ages. Dan Young, manager of The Red Rocks, shared excitement at opening the venue for the 2025 season, eager to welcome both locals and visitors alike.
