Weston-super-Mare’s Beloved Indoor Market to Close After Over 30 Years

Weston Indoor Market, a cherished fixture in Weston-super-Mare since 1988, has announced it will close permanently on Saturday, April 25. Known as the town’s longest-running indoor market, it has been a vibrant hub for local traders and shoppers alike for more than three decades.

In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook, a market spokesperson reflected on the legacy: “Since opening in 1988, we have been proud to support a huge number of traders, many of whom started with just a single stall and grew to operate successful businesses. To all our customers and followers who have shopped with us over the years – thank you. It’s been a great run.”

As the closure approaches, the market has adjusted its opening hours. From Monday, March 30, it will operate from 10am to 4pm and remain closed on Sundays.

The news has sparked an outpouring of sadness from the community. Visitors and locals shared their fond memories and regrets. One visitor noted, “This little market unlocks core memories for me from my visits as a child. Thank you for being that for so many people.”

Another commenter expressed, “Such a shame. Best of luck for whatever the future holds.”

Several businesses housed within the market are now planning their next steps. JD3DP, a 3D-printing company, remains optimistic, stating that the closure is merely a pause: “We are planning to continue trading until the last day. This is not the end for JD3DP; just a temporary pause as we explore new ideas.”

Blissful Wellness Treats reassured customers that they are actively seeking a new location and will continue selling at other local markets and online, beginning with Weston Independent Market on Wednesdays starting April 1.

Jolliff Sewing & Embroidery expressed heartfelt gratitude to customers but admitted uncertainty about the future: “In the year I’ve been here, I’ve completed nearly 620 orders and met wonderful people. All that’s left is to thank my loyal customers and hope to continue sewing for you all.”

As Weston Indoor Market prepares to close its doors, the community’s appreciation for this historic shopping destination remains strong, alongside hopes for a new chapter for its many dedicated traders.
