In a thrilling FA Cup first-round clash, Weston-super-Mare staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Aldershot 2-1 after extra time, securing their place in the second round.
The match got off to a competitive start with Aldershot’s midfielder Kiban Rai coming close early on, his effort cleared by the Weston defense. However, it was Aldershot who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Rai capitalized on a precise cross from Ryan Hill, expertly volleying the ball high into the net to give the Shots the lead.
Weston-super-Mare responded resiliently, pushing hard for an equalizer. Their perseverance paid off late in the game when, in the 84th minute, Luke Coulson’s free-kick was initially blocked but the rebound fell to Emlyn Lewis, who calmly converted to level the score and force extra time.
