Weston-super-Mare has booked their place in the National League South play-off semi-finals after a gripping penalty shootout win against Hemel Hempstead Town.
The Seagulls seemed set for victory when Louis Britton scored a header from a free-kick in the 75th minute, putting Weston ahead. However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, Hemel’s Joe White struck a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute, sending the match into extra time.
Despite opportunities on both sides during extra time, neither team could find the winner, leading to a tense penalty shootout. Early in the shootout, White’s attempt was saved by Weston goalkeeper Max Harris, but Emlyn Lewis’s penalty for Weston was also denied. After a series of successful penalties, Louis Lomas missed for Hemel Hempstead, giving Weston a crucial advantage.
