Weston-super-Mare’s FA Cup journey ended in the third round following a narrow loss to League Two side Grimsby Town. Despite the disappointment, manager Scott Rogers expressed immense pride in both his team and the passionate supporters. The match was decided by a late header from Kieran Green, which sealed a thrilling 3-2 victory for Grimsby.
Rogers acknowledged the quality of the winning goal but lamented his side’s defensive lapse. “It was a good goal from their point of view, not from ours. Good ball in, great run, great header, but we’re disappointed we didn’t stop it,” he said. “I’m absolutely gutted for the players. That could have been their day, it was so close.”
The manager also praised the impressive traveling support, with around six to seven hundred fans flooding the stadium and providing unwavering encouragement throughout the game. “They were absolutely magnificent from start to finish. Their singing really pushed the team,” Rogers added.

Weston struggled in the first half but came alive after the break, scoring twice in 30 minutes. Luke Coulson netted the equaliser, prompting Rogers to wonder if a cup upset was possible. Louis Britton added a second goal, marking his 20th of the season and drawing attention from higher-tier clubs. Rogers highlighted Britton’s dedication to improving his fitness and performance since joining over the summer.
Now out of the Cup, Weston-super-Mare can focus fully on their league campaign, where they currently sit second, just one point behind Worthing. Rogers is determined to avoid a slump similar to last season’s post-cup decline and is optimistic about the squad’s prospects. “We’ve got some tough games ahead, but we have to believe in this team. Making the play-offs remains the goal, and if we can do that, it would be fantastic,” he said.
Weston’s next fixture is against Chelmsford City on January 17, the same side they eliminated in the previous round of the FA Cup.
