Weston-super-Mare’s FA Cup journey ended in heartbreak with a narrow third-round defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town. Despite the loss, manager Scott Rogers expressed immense pride in his players and supporters after a thrilling contest decided by a late header from Kieran Green.
“It was a great goal from their perspective, but tough for us to concede such a late winner,” Rogers said. “I’m absolutely gutted for the team. They came so close to making it their day.”
The Seagulls’ fans were outstanding, with around 600 supporters vocally backing the team throughout. “Their support was incredible, never stopping their singing from start to finish. That really drives the players,” Rogers added.

After a forgettable first half, Weston showed resilience in the second, scoring twice inside 30 minutes. Luke Coulson’s equaliser sparked hope, followed by Louis Britton’s 20th goal of the season, further fueling interest from higher-tier clubs. Rogers praised Britton’s dedication, crediting hard work and fitness improvements since joining in the summer.
With the FA Cup run over, Weston now refocus on their league campaign, sitting second and just one point behind leaders Worthing. Rogers is determined to avoid a poor run of form following the cup exit, referencing last season’s eight-game winless streak after FA Cup elimination.
“We’ve got to believe in our squad and bounce back strong. The goal remains reaching the play-offs, and that would be fantastic for us,” Rogers said.
Weston’s next fixture is set for January 17 against Chelmsford City, the team they defeated in the FA Cup’s second round.
