Weston-super-Mare Make History with First Ever FA Cup Third Round Appearance

Weston-super-Mare have made club history by reaching the FA Cup third round for the very first time. Their previous best was a round two appearance in the 2003/04 season, where they suffered defeat. This season, however, they triumphed with a 2-0 victory over Chelmsford City, powered by a brace from Louis Britton.

The match started energetically, with both teams creating early chances. Jason Adigun wasted a golden opportunity for Chelmsford, lobbing the ball over the bar from close range. Weston’s Louis Britton was a constant threat, nearly breaking through the defense but was stopped by a foul. The first half saw end-to-end action, but neither side could find the net, with Adigun striking the post for Chelmsford.

The second half maintained the high tempo, with Weston intensifying their pressure. In the 62nd minute, Dom Bernard delivered a perfect cross to Britton, who volleyed powerfully into the roof of the net, breaking the deadlock. Despite a red card for Chelmsford’s Clark late in the game, the visitors aggressively pushed for an equalizer but failed to breach Weston’s strong defense.

Weston-super-Mare lineup featured Harris in goal, supported by a solid defensive and midfield performance from Smith, Bernard, Avery, Coulson, and others, with significant contributions from substitutes Wilson and Wood. Chelmsford City fought hard but ultimately came up short despite spirited efforts from Adigun and Taylor.

Attendance for the match was 3,628, and the game was officiated by referee Carl Brook. This victory marks a significant chapter in Weston-super-Mare’s footballing history, exciting fans and players alike.
