Weston-super-Mare Make History with First Ever FA Cup Third Round Appearance

Weston-super-Mare’s 2-0 victory over Chelmsford City has secured their place in the FA Cup third round for the very first time in the club’s history. Louis Britton and Scott Rogers shared their excitement and hopes following this landmark achievement.

Britton, who impressively rose from playing two divisions below Weston last season to become the club’s top goalscorer, was pivotal in the win. The Seagulls’ No. 9 reflected on the forthcoming draw with enthusiasm: “Being a Man City fan, I would want them.”

Manager Scott Rogers, who took charge in the summer of 2023, revealed his own dream opponent would be Bristol City, a club where he once featured in their academy. Reflecting on his team’s performance and resilience, Rogers said, “I’m proud, very proud of the team. This didn’t surprise me; we have shown this quality all season.”

Rogers paid tribute to former Weston manager Scott Bartlett, now at Eastleigh, acknowledging the solid foundations Bartlett laid for the squad. “Scott played a massive part in building this team over the last couple of years and gave me the opportunity to take the reins.”

The boss also commended Chelmsford’s early pressure in the match, admitting, “They could have overwhelmed us in the first half. We stayed composed and knew if we kept the game level at halftime, we’d come back stronger.”

Britton, who scored both goals in the match, described his first goal as something special: “It’s what I do best—putting the ball in the back of the net. That first goal? I don’t think I’ll score one like that again.” He also recognized Chelmsford’s intensity upfront but highlighted Weston’s confidence in their counter-attacking strategy. “We knew we’d hit them on the break in the second half, and thankfully we took our chances with two goals.”

Having made history, Weston-super-Mare now eagerly await Monday’s third round draw, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and Discovery+ around 6:40pm.
