Weston-super-Mare Keep Play-Off Hopes Alive with Vital Victory

Weston-super-Mare strengthened their bid for a National League South play-off spot with a crucial 3-1 victory at Ebbsfleet on Saturday, reports Keith Watson.

The Seagulls found themselves trailing in the first half as Charlie Seaman gave the hosts the lead. Weston remained behind until the 66th minute when Luke Spokes, on loan from Kidderminster, leveled the score. Shortly after, another loanee, Ollie Dewsbury from Bristol Rovers, put Weston ahead. The decisive third goal came eight minutes before the final whistle, courtesy of Tommy Backwell, on loan from Cheltenham, securing three vital points for Weston-super-Mare.

Elsewhere, Chippenham boosted their survival chances with a 5-2 win at home against Eastbourne. Early goals from Billy Phillips and Caine Bradbury gave the Bluebirds a strong start, though Quevin Castro’s late first-half strike brought Eastbourne back into the match. After the break, Jake Evans, Luke Haines, and Anointed Chukwu extended Chippenham’s lead, with Max Mullins scoring a late consolation for Eastbourne. Chippenham remain in the relegation zone but are now just two points from safety, five points better off than Bath City.

Bath City, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat at Tonbridge Angels. Scott Wilson initially put Bath ahead, but goals from Bailey Akehurst and Bunmi Babajide turned the match in Tonbridge’s favour.

Salisbury moved further away from danger with a 2-0 home victory over second-bottom Enfield. Noah Coppin converted a first-half penalty, followed by a second-half strike from Nathan Odokonyero to secure the win.

In the National League North, Hereford’s struggle for survival continued with a 3-1 defeat to Macclesfield. Luke Duffy’s two second-half goals gave Macclesfield control. George Munday pulled one back for Hereford, but Isaac Buckley-Ricketts sealed the result late on.
