Weston-super-Mare Extend Play-Off Hopes with Vital 3-1 Victory at Ebbsfleet

WESTON-SUPER-MARE remain firmly in contention for a National League South play-off spot after securing a vital 3-1 away victory against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, reports Keith Watson.

Despite falling behind midway through the first half courtesy of Charlie Seaman’s opener, the Seagulls fought back strongly. The momentum shifted in the 66th minute when Luke Spokes, on loan from Kidderminster, leveled the score. Less than ten minutes later, Bristol Rovers loanee Ollie Dewsbury put Weston ahead. The win was sealed eight minutes from time by another loanee, Tommy Backwell from Cheltenham, who netted the third goal to ensure all three points for the visitors.

Weston-super-Mare remains just outside the play-off places but holds the advantage of games in hand over all teams above them, keeping their push for promotion alive.

Elsewhere, survival battles continue to heat up at the bottom of the National League South. Chippenham Town boosted their hopes with a convincing 5-2 win over Eastbourne Borough at Hardenhuish Park, thanks to goals from Billy Phillips, Caine Bradbury, Jake Evans, Luke Haines, and Anointed Chukwu. Though still in the relegation zone, Chippenham sit just two points from safety.

Bath City’s struggles continued with a 2-1 loss at Tonbridge Angels. After Scott Wilson’s early goal for the Romans, Tonbridge fought back with strikes from Bailey Akehurst and Bunmi Babajide. Meanwhile, Salisbury eased their relegation worries by beating second-bottom Enfield 2-0 at home, through a penalty from Noah Coppin and a goal by Nathan Odokonyero.

In the National League North, Hereford’s fight for survival hit a snag with a 3-1 defeat at Macclesfield. Luke Duffy’s second-half brace gave Macclesfield the lead, resisted briefly by a George Munday goal before Isaac Buckley-Ricketts sealed the victory late on.
